Visitors to Smith Rock State Park customarily stay at either the State ParkBivouac area or at Skull Hollow Campground in the Grasslands.

THE BIVOUAC AREA

  • A walk-in campground operated by the Oregon State Parks Department and is a part of Smith Rock State Park.
  • Facilities include a restroom, shower,and parking lot.
  • The fee is $4.00 per person per night.
  • A shower and daily parking are included in that price.
  • There are no designated campsites, so it is usually possible to find a spot.
  • Users must carry their gear from the parking area to their campsite, a distance of 100 to 200 feet.
  • You cannot sleep in your vehicle and RV's are not allowed.
  • Fires are prohibited.

"The Grasslands" is the Crooked River National Grasslands, managed by the U.S. Forest Service. The Crooked River National Grasslands covers a large area north, west and east of Smith Rock State Park, and is intermingled with private and BLM managed lands.

SKULL HOLLOW CAMPGROUND

  • The Forest Service in cooperation with The SmithRock Group, a non-profit organization, maintains Skull Hollow Campground, approximately 8 miles away from Smith Rock.
  • Skull Hollow Campground is the closest camping available to Smith Rock visitors, other than the Bivouac area.
  • RV's, trailers, campers, vans, etc.are allowed at Skull Hollow, however you must remain parked on the gravelpullouts.
  • There are vault toilets here, however there is no water, so bring your own.
  • The closest water available is at Smith Rock State Park,oryou can fill-up at Redpoint during store hours.
  • Campfires are permitted, but be aware of seasonal fire restrictions.

Please do not use the local vegetation for your campfire.

The closest town to Smith Rock State Park is Terrebonne. There are no motels in Terrebonne, so the nearest motels would be in Redmond.
