COMPANY HISTORY
First Ascent Climbing Services was started on the kitchen table in 1993 at the home of Carol Simpson and John Pinckney. Since then, it has grown to be the largest and most successful rock climbing guide service at Smith Rock State Park. First Ascent is an AMGA accredited guide service. The AMGA accreditation is to assure you that First Ascent has successfully passed the scrutiny and assessment of the definitive accreditation service in the rock climbing guide industry. |

ABOUT CAROL AND JOHN
John and Carol moved to central Oregon from the Washington D. C. area in 1992. They wanted to get away from the "rat race" of busy, stressful schedules. They sold all their worldly belongings, quit their jobs and hopped in their Chevy van to head westward! They started the trip in Hueco Tanks, TX, went to Tucson, AZ, Las Vegas, NV, Bishop, CA and ended up in Bend having fallen in love with Smith Rock and the whole Bend lifestyle.
After 16 years in the area they are back in the business world but not the "rat race". They are involved --with 3 climbing businesses, First Ascent Climbing Services, Repoint Climbers Supply and Entre Prises USA ~ manufacturer of climbing walls and holds.
John is an avid rock climber, of course, but in addition he is a triathlete. His hobby, which he has almost no time to pursue, is woodworking. Carol loves climbing with a passion and also has the same passion for Bikram yoga. Her hobbies include portrait drawing, photography and working on our web site. Both John and Carol have completed the AMGA Rock Instructor Course.
