COMPANY HISTORY

First Ascent Climbing Services was started in 1993 by Carol Simpson. Jim Ablao started guiding for First Ascent in 1999. As managing guide he helped First Ascent grow to be the largest and most successful rock climbing guide service at Smith Rock State Park. It was a natural step for Jim Ablao to take ownership of the company in the spring of 2009. First Ascent has been an AMGA accredited guide service since 1999. The AMGA accreditation assures that First Ascent has successfully passed the scrutiny and assessment of quality standards in the rock climbing guide industry.
